Cause me to hear Thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in Thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift my soul unto thee.
Dear Beloved and blessed in Christ,
Like a little child who stretches her arms to give a hug to her parent when she wakes up in the morning, we too are greeted by the outstretched Arm of the Lord’s (2 Kings 17:36) lovingkindness first thing in the morning.
What a way to wake up! What a joy and strength that will fill your heart to know He loves you (Ps. 30:5). Regardless of how you felt last night, or perhaps you have done something that is not right in your conscience or in the light of the scriptures, or either your heart was heavy and burdened, the Lord releases His mercies over you this morning (Lam. 3:22,23) to refresh you, to give a head start for the day, to lift your heart up so that you will come and talk to Him (Ps. 88:13).
I remember when both my children were babies, I looked forward for the morning to come. I will then be able to hear cute sounds of the babies and smiles on their faces. It brought strength to me as a father to know that they are well and my whole attention will be once again be upon them.
In the same way, our Gracious Father looks forward to hear your voice in the morning (Ps. 5:3). Sing of His mercies over you and your family. Declare His power of being your defense and your refuge! (Ps. 59:16).
Place your trust in His never-ending love for you. Ask me to show you the way you should walk. The Lord is very sure of His ways for our lives. We are the ones who are not sure. At times we ask the Lord for His suggestions instead of knowing His will. Frame yourself up in His will and have the courage to walk in it.
I bless you with His strength today. May the Lord lift up your heart and encourage. May you enjoy His sweet presence! May the gentle breeze of heaven brush through your spirit and refresh you with the thoughts of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, the Lamb that was slain for this world!
Psalm 23:3 (The Amplified Bible)
He refreshes and restores my life (my self); He leads me in the paths of righteousness [uprightness and right standing with Him - not for my earning it, but] for His name’s sake.
Dear Precious in Christ,
My soul is greatly humbled when I stand before the Word. No matter how lousy or sinful I can feel before I touched this Book, after spending some time, I feel clean (Jn. 15:3) washed by the blood of Jesus (1 Jn. 1:9), sanctified by His Spirit and strengthen by His Word (Rom. 15:16; 1 Cor. 6:11).
I accepted Christ when I was fifteen years old. Through the constant discipling of my brother and a strong desire and hunger for the words of life I poured my heart into the Word, often meditating for hours each day. The Word became the very air that I breathe.
There was a total reconstruction of my inner self before God through His Word, which I am still a person ’under progress.’ I loved the Word. I surrender myself before the Word. There can be no voice, no opinions nor feelings that can stand against the Word.
I was twenty-one years of age then, when my girl friend asked me one evening why I was quoting scriptures all the time. Without thinking twice, my tongue answered, "Even if you would cut my veins, my blood will speak of the Word." I was surprised by the quick answer. Not to put her down but to know for myself the depth of my devotion to Jesus and His Word.
Fifteen years later, now, I read an excellent book, A Godward Life by Dr. John Piper recommended by a God-given friend Dr. Ajith Fernando in which the writings of Charles Spurgeon was quoted,
C.H. Spurgeon said of John Bunyan, "Prick him anywhere; and you will find that his blood is Bibline, the very essence of the Bible flows from him. He cannot speak without a text, for his soul is full of the Word of God (John Pipe, A Godward Life (Sisters, Oregon: Multnomah Publishers, 1997)"
Oh, how much more I need to soak myself in His words of life. My prayer and careful quest for this last twenty one years that the Bible will not become a textbook which I draw my sermons from but rather the Bible will remain as God’s revelation to me that by meditating on them I will be changed and transformed by His image, a mark which I am far from and striving forward by the grace of God to become.
Beloved, I want to encourage you to take a deeper journey into the word of God. Make a commitment that you will not just scroll through the word but rather study and meditate the Word with an open heart. May our Lord speak to you greater!
